SmackDown Live. October 10, 2017
Fatal Four Way Tag Match: Ascension v. Breezango v. Benjamin/gable v. Hype Bros: Winner=Benjamin/Gable
Becky Lynch V. Carmella: Winner=Lynch
Nakamura & Orton V. Rusev & Aiden English: Winner= Nakamura/Orton
AJ Styles V. Baron Corbin: Winner= Corbin
The Usos started the show off. They recently won back the tag team titles at the Hell in a Cell pay per view this past Sunday. Honestly, this match between Usos and the New Day was the best match of the night. Although, Shane was an entertaining part of the night pushing the limits as only he can, the Usos should have been the main event.
The Usos didn’t really speak on the mic as much as they usually do before calling the New Day out. Speaking of the New Day, why are they always thrusting their hips around and twerking. I thought this was a PG show. How is dancing like that PG? I mean if we’re going to allow that can we spice up some of the other stuff too? Ah the crowd chanting “New Day Rocks” it’s more like New Day Lost….again. It’s nice to hear the Usos showing respect for the amazing match that they put on with the New Day. However, it is kind of hard to listen to them talking because Jey’s voice is squeaking just a little bit. I do, however, greatly appreciate the respect shared between these two teams.
And then the Hype Brothers interrupt. However, they are speaking truth. WWE does push the same people over and over. Jey commented on Mojo’s career in NFL. That was quite the burn. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable show up to try to declare their shot at the tag belts. Followed by Breezango and the Ascension. As anyone could predict Daniel Bryan came out to declare a match. Daniel said it is a bad night for the tag team division to be fighting? Why is that Daniel. Are we turning Daniel into a heel GM? Of course he is declaring a fatal four way tag match that starts right away.
The fatal four way between Hype Bros, Breezango, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, and The Ascension started after a commercial break with the Usos sitting by with the announce team. I feel that the push for Benjamin is on the fence. The crowd was so excited to have him back but I don’t feel that they have executed his push properly. The Ascension and Breezango have not really been out in the ring very much. Gable performed a take down perfectly. Typically in this type of match, all hell breaks loose. Something that Smackdown live does better than Raw is that when a match is going on, they use split screens for commercials. This seems to be a great way to kick off Smackdown Live. Tyler Breeze almost stole a victory. That would be an interesting turn of events to see these two against the Usos. Especially with the Usos heel attitudes. After a back and forth between Gable/Benjamin and Breezango, Gable/Benjamin pulled the win.
Interesting enough, Nakamura and Randy Orton are going to tag with each other against Rusev and Aiden English. A very short locker room segment trying to get a comment from Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn about their actions at the Hell in a Cell PPV. Which I am still trying to decipher for myself. I know they were best friends but Owens turned on Zayn before. So what makes him think that it won’t happen again?? When it does, I really want to hear him complain about it. Which we all know he will.
I absolutely love what WWE does for charities and organization. October is the month that WWE partners with Susan G. Komen to raise awarenss for brest cancer.
The review of the Woman’s title match from this past Sunday. If that match did anything, it signified that Charlotte had completely turned face and Nattie is the heel. Which the heel does look good on her. Locker room segment between Nattie, Lana, Tamina and Carmella. It feels too scripted for me. All hell breaks loose between the entire women’s division. I guess it is just the night for hell to break loose.
Renee interviews Baron Corbin who won the US championship title this past Sunday. However, AJ styles has already cashed in his rematch clause. Unfortunately, Corbin has talked so much that I no longer listen.
Up next is Becky Lynch and Carmella. This should be an interesting match. possibly. It certainly has the potential to be a great match. I am not so sure why Elsworth has to be tied to the post like a dog. That is kind of degrading to men. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a fan of No Chin Elsworth, or at least not anymore. I thought his bit with Dean Ambrose was comical at first. Now that he is aligned with Carmella, it is getting old. Carmellas new outfit reminds me of a bathing suit. That pink outfit is really bright. I don’t understand why she has to scream so much. The crowd seems to be on Becky’s side while Carmella is taking control. But she won’t win that fast. Off topic here, is it bad that I see wrestling in the mindset of what the Sin Video on youtube is going to be? The CinemaSin guy? Carmella seems to be getting better. However, Becky wins by submission.
The Victorious Kevin Owens? He really wanted to be announced like that? At least he’s limping to the ring. I’m sorry, I really wanted Shane to win in that match. I know that it is all a storyline and although they do really get hurt the things that are said and the winners are scripted. I have known this for a very long time. However, I do not ever agree with bringing someone’s kids into the story. Even if Shane said it was okay, I don’t think it was okay. It is now time to tune out. Owens seems to overly talk way too much. So I only have to tune it every few seconds and he still talks about the same thing. I see Sami Zayn coming out soon to agree with Owens and whatever. I understand Owens is a heel, but does he have to be a crybaby heel? These are things I question while Live Tweeting the show on Twitter….However, I have more thoughts than what 140 characters will allow. Seriously Owens?? cutting in line at the pearly gates? I’m pretty sure they would only call you up from to kick you out. Sami Zayn as a guardian angel? Kevin owens heaven? He is full of himself. However, I do still like Zayn’s music. You can’t help but dance to it. Even though right now I don’t want to like Zayn. Yeah Kevin you better be thanking Zayn. How is power bombing Zayn an eye opener? Ah this is where Zayn is turning heel. Just like Owens, Zayn has gone on this very long excuse for why he did what he did and why he turned against Shane.
Rusev and Aiden English versus Randy Orton and Nakamura is next. This is an interesting tag team. I like both Nakamura and Orton. However, the beginning of Nakamura’s entrance gives me a headache. I do love his music tho and my daughter dances along with him which is cute.
Orton and Rusev start the match off. Their rivalry hasn’t been what I had hoped it would be. Both achieving quick victories over the other. Orton slams Rusev on the announce table and it doesn’t break. That is when it really hurts. If the table breaks, it doesn’t hurt as bad. It does hurt but not as bad as when the table doesn’t break. Every time someone is thrown on a table and it doesn’t break, I wince. Rusev and English have control of the match very early on. Rusev and English are working very well with each other. I guess English was tired of being a jobber. I mean it was so bad that we didn’t even know he had an entrance music. I’m not a fan of English’s voice, personally. It is very nasally for my liking. Finally, Orton made a tag to Nakamura and here he comes. I always wondered why they started calling him ‘The Artist’? Don’t get me wrong, he is a master in the ring. Is it still an RKO out of nowhere if everyone is expecting one to be done in the match??
Locker room segment with AJ Styles about his loss at the PPV. I realized that it is almost 9:30 EST with only 36 minutes left in the show and there has only been 3 matches. They haven’t even been long matches. There has been that much talking that it took up most of tonight’s program. Kind of like last night’s RAW. Not enough matches and too much talking.
Luke Harper and Eric Rowan have made their return. In a very interesting and kind of creepy video, creating a new faction. Interesting.
Here comes Roode with his annoying, yet catchy song that you don’t want to hear but gets stuck in your head for a long time. He comes out in these robes that remind me of Ric Flair. I wonder if he does this on purpose. I may not be a fan of Roode but he was brought up from NXT to spice things up. Why is it a night of talking? Seriously? When did wrestling become more about what they got to say and less about what they can do in the ring? Dolph Ziggler. I’m not sure what his whole gimmick is supposed to be. I know he’s doing this I’m not gonna do a flashy entrance because my actions are better or something. Did he ever resign his contract? I thought there were rumors about him going to New Japan. Dolph thinks hes the greatest in ring performer, I think he’s exaggerating this a little bit. Dolph accusing Roode of being a cheater? From my point of view, Roode was only mimicking what Dolph had done before the reversal. Hey Roode I agree with you. I am kind of sick of the talking. There has been so much talking tonight its crazy. Dolphs hair is so long and pretty. I am a little jealous. I wonder how much hair dye it takes to keep it blonde? Go figure, Ziggler wants a rematch but doesn’t want it tonight. At least they stopped talking.
Up next, Is the US Title match between Baron Corbin and AJ Styles. I want to be in the crowd to do the “One Fall” chant. Wait I will be next month This is going to be fun. So Baron Corbin came out during the break? The fans at home didn’t get to see him come out? Doesn’t the challenger usually come out first? Could this foreshadow AJ getting his title back? Is this match really going to take 15 minutes? I’m not sure if Corbin constant rolling out to the outside is a good thing or a bad thing. I mean it allows him to regain his composure but it could also lead to AJ performing some risky moves which could really cost Corbin. So earlier they used the split screen for commercial during a match. Why are we on the main event and they went to commercial without the split screen? This doesn’t make any sense. Com on now WWE, keep up some consistency. How does anyone keep falling for Corbins baseball slide out of the ring, round the post then back in the ring? Thank you AJ for catching him before he could do that baseball slide move again. From the sounds of the crowd, they are thrilled with AJ as well. Did Corbin get the name for his finisher from the Marilyn Manson song? Thats what I think about when I hear it. Baron could have and probably should have capitalized on his finisher but didn’t. Corbin hitting the post sounded awful. Slamming Aj’s head on the mat is an interesting and effective way to break out of the calf crusher. This has been quite a brutal match with Corbin retaining the title. Which I actually thought that he would probably lose.
I am still baffled that there were only 4 matches total in tonight’s show. That is a little ridiculous. That means that there were more segments with talking than actual wrestling. Doesn’t the WWE creative team know that there are talk shows for talking. I understand the need for talking to communicate the story line but when it takes up most of the show then it is too much talking. I hope you enjoy my recap and feelings on the show. Like I said it is just way too much than the 140 characters that Twitter provides can handle. Let me know how you felt about tonight’s show. Is there anyone that you wanted to see tonight? Who did you want to win in each match? Look forward to hearing from you.
