Kevin Probably Saves the World Season One Episode Two airing October 10th, 2017 is called Listen Up.
Jason Ritter is a breath of fresh air in this inspirational show. I love how the show tackles suicide from both sides. The one who was down and out and tried as well as the family who feel helpless.
The show begins with Kevin doing push ups in the rain. Not a bad sight if I must say. Come on Kevin, your angel isn’t going to give you the list. You got to work for it. A wet Kevin is a pretty Kevin. Well he’s pretty good looking no matter what.
I love how Kevin stopped to see the world more clearer and the production team slowed down the filming enough where you could see the individual drops. And now we get Kevin in his boxers Come on Jason Ritter, you are making this hard to concentrate on the show.
Don’t worry Kevin, I am not very good at coffee machines. I agree with your sister, these flyers do not sound very appropriate. The brother sister aspect between Kevin and his sister is cute. If only siblings were always that nice.
This show is so cute and uplifting. It is just what we need in the world right now with everything going on. I remember my mom watching Three’s company when I was a kid. That was my first introduction to John Ritter, Jason’s dad. Then I watched Raise your voice. The first thing that I ever saw Jason in. He was so amazing in that movie that he made me cry. When his character passed away, I bawled like a baby getting a shot. Then he kind of went off grid. He wasn’t in anything that was too main stream. That is until Parenthood. I honestly disliked how his character was treated in that show. He was so honest and pure and cute that I felt he should have been treated better. Now we have Kevin Probably Saves the World. This show is funny, intriguing, inspiration and all around fun that it is worth staying up an additional hour. (Even though I get up between 4 and 5 AM) Jason Ritter is capable of performing any scene with a type of lighthearted humor. I am curious if the Sheriff is from Marvel’s SHIELD. He looks failiar.
So we started the show with some sort of righteous boot camp. Kevin then decided that he should get up at 4 AM ( if you don’t have to get up that early, why would you?) to make flyers trying to find who needs help. However, like his sister pointed out, those flyers sounded a little dirty. He makes the flyers anyway and catches a ride to town with his sister. There he distributes his flyers. Except when he tries to place a flyer on a bulletin board they keep falling or disappearing because a flyer was more important. The universe was giving him a sign.
Kevin then tries to figure out what the owner of the flyer could need help with. He is being very bothersome and prompts the sheriff to be called who gives him a ride home. The talk between Kevin and his sister about his suicide attempt is what we need. There has always been this stigma around mental health. That attempting suicide isn’t a mental illness. That we should be ashamed of having any type of mental problems. This show is what I need.
After the conversation with his sister, Kevin goes to the party that his friend Joe is having. He feels kind of odd because everyone is asking him why he came back. I find it very emotional when Kevin talks to the ones he helps about his mental illness and suicide attempt. Changing a hard to reach light bulb sure escalated fast. His former girlfriend came to Kevin with a copy of his flyer asking what kind of services he offers. She starts to list off things like plumbing. Although, Kevin did put that he could do anything on his flyer, there are some things that he cannot do. So she asks him if he can change a hard to reach light bulb. The next scene that we see is hot and heavy where Kevin crashes into and breaks a lamp.
Amy talking to herself about her brother is so adorable. She is a worried sister and it is something that I can relate to. The rekindling between Kevin and his ex seems to be a one night stand as she did not want him to stay the night. So Kevin is forced to walk home arguing with Yvette. Then the statement about a right way to have sex? that seems like a statement that will be breaking the internet. Since Kevin didn’t call or text Amy to let her know that he wouldn’t be coming home or would be coming home late, she freaks out This prompts Kevin’s niece to come find him.
After the one night stand, Kevin tries to get a date with Kristin only to be brushed off. Come to find out, Kevin didn’t break up with her the first go round. I’m guessing it is a type of revenge. Like hey you broke my heart by not even answering my calls so you get the hang up now. Either way, it speaks to the viewers. I felt very sad for Kevin. He seems so cute and sincere.
After the farmer’s market scene we see Kevin talking to Jake, the guy he is supposed to help. Kevin initially wanted him to ease into telling his dad he didn’t want to work in the beer company anymore. Yet he decided to up and quit. Which prompts his dad having a heart attack. While they are being placed in the ambulance, the son looks at Kevin and says “This is all your fault.” It is just not Kevin’s day. Brushed off by his ex and being blamed for a heart attack. His face just says it all. A street sign fell in front of Kevin, almost hitting him, the angel tells him to go to the hospital, a couple stops and asks where the hospital is and a couple of ambulances pass by him as he is ignoring the signs. The humor of this show is so adorable. At the house, the TV is also giving Kevin signs that he needs to go to the hospital. It appears that he really needs to listen to the universe.
Kevin had told the sheriff that Amy needed to fix the truck. The exchange was a little weird. When Kevin brings up the part to Amy they have an argument. I’m not quite sure how telling a cop that you could possibly use your sisters truck is telling your sisters business. However, in a bad mood, Amy slams the trucks hood crushing Kevin’s hand. Another sign from the universe that Kevin needs to go to the hospital. His work isn’t done. That hood only bruised his hand. That’s an old truck so it should be mainly metal. That should have crushed his hand. How cute that Amy talks to the truck as if it is her late husband John. Although it is cute its also sad. She misses her husband. The bond between the brother and sister in this show is so cute. They fight and make up and lean on each other. Kevin is so adorable. While in the hospital Kevin receives another sign to go see Jake’s dad.
Turns out that the heart attack that Kevin supposedly caused wasn’t a heart attack. It was an early sign. Something that most people don’t get. Basically the body letting them know that they need to make a change before they do have an actual heart attack. There Kevin realizes that it wasn’t Jake he was supposed to help, it was Jake’s father.
Kevin gets into an elevator where a fish falls down. Looking up he sees a bunch of water. Out of pure curiosity, that’s the only think I can guess, he touches the water and finds himself swimming in the ocean looking at an island. “You want to be my partner in crime, my ride or die”. This has to be my favorite quote of the show. Kevin calling Kristin pretending to be back in college is too cute. He is finally giving her the break up that she deserved all those years ago. I also love that they chose a 90’s song, Closing Time, to play in the background.
The final scene is Amy and Kevin riding in the fixed truck. They have such the cutest brother, sister relationship. I know I have said this before but it is so adorable that I cannot help but mention every time they share a scene together.
I give this episode a full 10 stars. Just like the premiere, Kevin Probably and Jason Ritter delivers everything that was promised and more. This is a show that I hope never ends. I hate that I have to wait another week to see Jason Ritter’s cute, quirky self again.
